KMUTT aims to be the leader of EV technology developing green transportation, and have its “MOVE” center as the EV learning center.

Yossapong Laoonual, Assistant to the President for Sustainability at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) as the chief of Mobility and Vehicle Technology Research Center (MOVE) said MOVE has collaborated with partners, public and private sectors striving for a green and entrepreneurial university and create the leaders of change.

KMUTT has determined to be the leader in sustainable development in every activity including operation, learning, research and innovation, academic for communities and entrepreneurs.

He said the promotion of electric vehicles should start in big cities such as Bangkok and suburban provinces in order to relieve the pollution due to traffic and global warming caused by greenhouse gas emission. The domestic electric vehicle and spare parts manufacturing should be promoted to support the research and development and have Thai entrepreneurs to be competitive in the global stage. The EV market during 2025-2030 is forecasted to be around 30%.

In the meantime, it needs to have promotion of EV charging stations, EV research and development, academic on EV standard or courses for education institutes and promote the people to use EV. The university has proposed the EV promotion model to the government. The proposal covers EV masterplan, EV manufacturing promotion, EV and spare parts standard, the measures to encourage the use of EV, promotion of EV potential and human resource development to coincide with the EV trend.

If the government has seriously and consecutively supported the EV, Thailand will be able to solve the economic and environmental problem and become a hub of EV in the future, said Yossapong.
