Smart Hospital upscaled by AI

AI enables faster and more precise diagnosis and treatment with data processing and analytics on the Cloud upscaling to be a smart hospital with robotic assistants working for telemedicine.

According to Dr. Piyamitr Sritara, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital Mahidol University, a critical changing point of artificial intelligence (AI) medical innovation development is a building of hospitals network integration nationwide because the treatment and diagnosis efficiency based on AI is the big data of patients.

A use of AI to diagnose pneumonia of Covid-19, for instance, requires more than 1 million patient data samplings throughout the world so that data analytics and processing can achieve a precise result. Building an AI database therefore needs to have collaboration of all hospitals, public and private, as well as international hospitals because the patient data in the future will be electronically saved on the cloud.

At present, the course at the Faculty of Medicine has bundled an AI program so that the physicians and nurses can learn the use of AI-based telemedicine and be able to lead to a data scientist. Technology has been greatly developed during the Covid-19 pandemic, including precision CT scan, the N95 mask and personal protection equipment (PPE), and a vaccine.

In addition, new HealthTech startups were born such as a startup who developed a high precision saliva test for Covid-19, delivery robot, and patient counselling. A medical diagnosis can be done within a less time due to a collaboration of the public and private sectors such as Huawei Technologies (Thailand) which supports 5G, AI and Cloud technology.

There are new medicine developments to protect a virus such as finger root and ginger and has an effective prevention a spread of Covi19, leading to a research and development with the private sector producing an extract, an awareness of medical training to cope with the Covid-19 crisis such as stem cell planting of the Covid-19 patients, Zoom meeting for counselling between the patients and doctors. All the attempts are to get ready for tacking with the second wave of virus.

The noted advance of health technology is a part of the “Transforming Healthcare” which is one of the six themes to be highlighted at Thailand x Innovation Thailand Expo 2020 where many more innovations for healthcare will be presented in an attempt to drive new medical services in Thailand and the models in dealing with the post of Covid-19 pandemic.
