Overseas Thai People Access “Ooca” Telemental Health Counselling Services Free

Telemedica joins hands with Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take care overseas Thai people connecting them to psychiatrists and psychologists online via OOCA application with free of charge.

There are currently about 1.6 million Thai people living abroad. During the Covid-19 pandemic, those people may generally face with mental health problem or stress and anxiety, especially those who are in environment that they are unacquainted in terms of language and culture. Loneliness can be leading to stress. Many Thais living abroad cannot access to psychiatrists and psychologists as they are uncomfortable to do because of a concern on language, traveling and cost, some Thais have difficulty to travel to Thailand for treatment.

Ooca is a telemental health platform that provides online counselling service with mental health professionals, the application thus allows the Thais living abroad to access Thai psychiatrists and psychologists online. Users can use the service without their identity disclosure, so they can feel comfortably asking for counselling service. They need not to travel back to Thailand as the online application can be accessible anywhere in the world.

Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign, teams up with Ooca application, the leading counseling services via video calls with mental health professionals which taking care more than 72,000 users. The pilot service will be offered to Thai people living in Japan, Germany, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macao, and USA.

Chatri Archjananun, Director-General of Department of Consular Affairs said the Ministry of Foreign, by the Consular Affairs Department and the Royal Thai Embassy worldwide, has teamed up with Thai volunteers in Thailand and abroad providing physical and mental health counselling services to Thai people in overseas with free of charge. The service aims to help relieve stress of those who are far from home, especially who are affected by Covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s hard for Thai people in abroad during this difficult time and they need a support from mental professionals, their local psychiatrists cannot comprehend the context of foreign patients. Ooca is a vital tool to take care those Thai people connecting them with Thai psychiatrists and psychologists conveniently as they need not to travel back to the country. This is a significant move of the government with an attempt of taking care Thai people during a tough time,” said Kanpassorn Suriyasangpetch, chairman of Telemedica Co., Ltd.
