NECTEC upscaling startups-SMEs with AI and IoT

Nectec a center of upskilling for startups, makes use of AI and IoT to modernize the machines for SMEs with consulting services and investment to pave the way for Industry 4.0.

Dr Chai Wutiwiwatchai, Executive Director of National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (Nectec) said Nectec is a technology and innovation incubation source for startups and entrepreneurs according to the “Industry 4.0”, a major part of the government’s plan to transform the country into innovation and knowledge-based digital economy. The smart industry initiative provides consulting, research and development, or joint venture with the public and private sectors. With its readiness in technology and innovation, Nectec has supported the businesses with artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology. 

Nectec has a goal to have Thailand be free from technology traps, the center now has a full team of technology experts, more than 70 people in AI, 50 specialists in big data and over 50 people in sensor technology.

He pointed out AI for Thai, the Thai AI service platform dedicated to AI technology research and development, machine learning technology that focuses on users in the industrial sector and services in Thailand such as the retail business which has used chatbot technology to automatically answer and service customers, logistics business that has used face recognition technology to monitor the driving behavior of the driver through his face. 

Nectec has created a high precision and quality sensor for telemedicine to diagnose disease and test the DNA provided to Thai and international companies for medical equipment. The center also developed the smart farming system supporting precision farming, especially the crops that require technology for quality production such as durian.

Chai added that the industry 4.0 upscaling focused on the existing machines, using AI and IoT to control the manufacturing and increase productivity. Nectec recently set up the Sustainable Manufacturing Center (SMC) under the support of EECi ARIPOLIS approved by the cabinet recently to focus on human resource development, driving industrial support policies, demo production line and testbed, R&D and engineering, as well as standard and manufacturing readiness assessment service.
