Smart home gaining traction lets startups to work on AI and IoT creating security systems and power-saving technology.

Piyapoj Kasempakdeepong, CEO at Onionshack Co., Ltd., an artificial intelligence (AI) solution provider said smart home and smart office technology have been gaining more traction due to its attributes in security, more convenience and 50% power saving.

Thai startups could not compete with the global tech companies in every aspect. However, if the government and private sector support them by giving them a chance to participate the public procurement projects and facilitating them with a more relaxed regulations of IoT equipment certified standard to startups, small and medium manufacturers or service providers, it will help strengthen smart home or smart office and enable startups to compete with the overseas companies.

The concept of smart home has integrated IoT services development embedded intelligence into sensors controlled by smartphone application. Home appliances can be controlled remotely.

Piyapoj added that to turn into a smart home or smart office, wiring in the home or office must be restructured to support the IoT equipment that control home appliances such as light bulbs, TV, door, key, air conditioner, CCTV, motion sensor or temperature sensor. Attributes of smart home are home security controlled by smartphone via application with security system of digital password, working together with motion detection of smart IP camera.

AI can help reduce energy consumption and in the future Internet, smartphone, AI and IoT will be the security for home and office replacing the existing security system. It’s therefore a good opportunity for potential startups to create innovation and technology of smart homes for better quality of life for consumers.
