One of the most rising startups to watch is no doubt healthtech startups which of late increasingly apply Artificial Intelligence to patient health data and information.

For the budding healthtech scene in Thailand, HealthSmile is one of the up-and-coming companies, known for developing online platform for individuals who have regular health examination and need a health checkup program specifically tailored to their health risks.

Dr. Prasit Viriyakijpaiboon, M.D., the founder of HealthSmile, said that the platform was conceived and developed because he is aware of impracticality of health check-up packages provided by hospitals often recommending patients types of screening tests based on their ages: Older people generally get more screenings than the younger.

However, these check-up packages may not be precisely fitting for each patients ’potential health risks. For this reason, HealthSmile has developed the Algorithm for health risks assessment that can help doctors and patients plan suitable personalized health screening.

HealthSmile also teams up with registered nurses to accommodate at-home health examination for patients who want to avoid hassle due to hospital visits.

The platform’s greatest advantage is service fee, which is by and large 50% cheaper than leading private hospitals. Given health checkup services provided by the nurses at patients’ homes, there will be no facility fees, doctors’ fees, and service charges. At present, the service is available in three provinces-Krungthep, ChiangMai and Rayong- with an average of 80 to 100 users per month.

HealthSmile now takes one step further by partnering with Ayuthaya Allianz, the insurance giant, to provide health examination services to clients before and after they apply for health insurance. The clients will benefit from this extra service by getting health screenings suitably tailored to their needs.

In the meantime, the company is improving and perking up its algorithm in order to support more advanced medical services such as computed tomography, treadmill stress test and ultrasound. The challenge is to connect patients’ data with hospitals’ system, Dr.Prasit said.

“In the past we simply did a few procedures like blood collection and stool or urine examination. But sooner or later, if our third version of algorithm are fully developed, we will be able to provide a broader range of services.”

HealthSmile gives opportunity for healthtech startups buffs to join its expanding team. Moreover, the company becomes interested in developing people for healthtech industry and believes that there will be more challenging projects in the pipeline.
